FINAL PROJECT: Deforestation.

well, this is my final project. after much brainstorming and experimenting, i decided to do another social commentary poster, since i had so many ideas for that project that i wasnt able to do. i had thought about doing a series with the characters from the tv cartoon, captain planet, or a series of the four natural elements, or another representation of how humans are destroying the world we live on.

so, i finally arrived at this poster about deforestation. i was inspired by the grunge style posters of david carson and the layering exercise we did in class with molly morin. the bottom half of the photo, shows land where trees have been or are in the process of being cut down. the image reminded me of the aftermath of an explosion of some sort, so i wanted the top half of the poster to reflect that. i hope i have accomplished that affect with the explosion of letters, all of which are part of the word 'deforestation'. the yellow affect i think gives it an even more of a discomforting feel for the viewer.

Molly Morin Demo Piece

i really liked this demo and i think learning more about the layer masks and modes will really benefit me in the future. i had fun playing around with these different effects and feel like i understand a little more about them now.
after i picked a lime green and a bright purple for my two solid color layers, and after adding a couple of textures, my image started to resemble some sort of mysterious, underwater atmosphere, so i added in some plant life and drew a couple of fishies with the paint brush. i really like the graffiti look with the text 'crash' and i used a sort of brick-like image as one of my textures. so hopefully there is a graffiti/underwater aspect to it....
plus the guy with the cone on his head is just hilarious...thats for my own amusement.

Narrative Series Project

so here is my narrative series project. i was going for a creation type story, but with a twist at the end. the last slide is supposed to be a stab at humanity and some of the ways we have come to act towards one another; my message is that in the christian tradition, God did not of course intend for this, God did not make loss, humans do. the text is what is supposed to draw the three images together, by using the same font (helvetica of course) for the 'God made' phrase, and yet a different font for each of the three 'stages' in order to keep some distinction.
the last slide i know was hard to read when the text was in black and printed out, so i changed the color to white to hopefully make that pop more. the stencil font i used for 'LOSS' was meant to give a military feel--it reminds me of the show MASH....
i do wish the second slide was a little more defined...

ch. 10 exercises...

haha this was somewhat of a failure...but i did everything i was told in the book, but i just didnt cut out enough of the original girl's neck, so it looks like amelia just has a really bad tan line. but i really like the clone tool now, and plane to use it more often, now that i know how to use it.

FINAL POSTER PROJECT

ahhhhh well this project has proven that i am the most indecisive person EVER! this is the original idea i started out with, and after many drafts, and many other spur-of-the-moment ideas, i finally ended up with this poster for the World Wildlife Foundation, featuring their vision statement and just a few of the animals whose lives they sponsor awareness to preserve.

FINAL SELF-PORTRAIT!

okay, so here is my final draft of the self-portrait project. its definitely....strange. i stuck with the lizzard idea and left out details of the eyebrows and a distinctive nose, but i made two clear, small nostrils.

i had to experiment a lot with the scarf, but finally decided on a pattern, that to me, looks like the stitches in a knitted scarf. i also used the same pair of colors as in the background, to try and keep things balanced some.

i had a lot of trouble brainstorming for the tongue, but in the end, just kept it flat like the rest of the figures.

lastly, im really not sure how i feel about the hair...i tried to give it a little more depth by adding different shades of the circles, to reflect the different shades of blonde that are in my hair-however, im not sure if it actually gives that effect, and would love some feedback!
